The theme for this month is 'vaccinations during pregnancy'. You can read the latest news from our practice and we share various course dates.
Theme of the month: Vaccinations during pregnancy
As a pregnant woman, you have the option to receive a number of vaccinations to provide your baby with antibodies during pregnancy; these vaccinations are part of the national vaccination program. Therefore, you do not have to pay extra for this. The vaccinations are provided by the GGD (consultatiebureau).
The RSV virus causes respiratory infections in your baby. As a pregnant woman, you can receive an RSV vaccination if your due date is between November and March. You then pass antibodies to your baby via the placenta. This way, you protect the baby during the first months after birth.
When: between week 24 and 36 of pregnancy, preferably after 30 weeks of pregnancy.
Whooping cough vaccination, also known as the 22-week shot. Whooping cough is a contagious disease that can cause severe coughing fits. It is especially dangerous for young babies who have not yet been vaccinated or have not yet received enough shots. A good way to protect newborn babies against whooping cough is to give women a whooping cough shot starting at 22 weeks of pregnancy. By getting vaccinated yourself during pregnancy, your baby is protected against whooping cough immediately from birth.
When: From 22 weeks of pregnancy.
The Flu Shot reduces the chance of getting the flu during the winter months. It also reduces the chance of becoming seriously ill from the flu. Pregnant women with the flu are admitted to the hospital more often than women with the flu of the same age who are not pregnant. Newborn babies also have a higher risk of serious consequences from the flu, such as hospitalization. The flu shot is safe for the baby and the pregnant woman.
When: If your due date is between October and March 2027, you can get the flu shot starting from week 22 of your pregnancy.
You can find more information on the GGD website
